STUDENT OF XAVIER UNIVERSITY-ATENEO DE CAGAYAN RECEIVES THE FIRST DAISY AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINARY NURSING STUDENT IN MINDANAO

Health Carousel Philippines Inc. (HCPI) in partnership with DAISY Foundation and Health Carousel Foundation presented the FIRST DAISY Award given to a nursing student in Mindanao during the orientation day of the College of Nursing of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. The DAISY Award is a prestigious international award for nurses. The DAISY Foundation was formed by the family of Patrick Barnes who died of complications of an autoimmune disease. The family was touched by the care and compassion of the nurses, this encouraged the family developed a recognition program which is the DAISY, an acronym for Disease Attacking the Immune System.

There are thousands of healthcare facilities and schools and 30++ countries using DAISY Award to recognize the nurses and nursing students. 

The College of Nursing of XU-Ateneo De Cagayan nominated four (4) incoming senior nursing students. The nominees are Kristofer Dan A. Trugillo, Zenju Espinosa, Justin Mar Alvear, and Dianarah Lofranco. Based on the standards established by the DAISY Committee, the story of Dianarah Lofranco, an incoming senior nursing student gets the award.

Dianarah was surprised but was very happy and proud when her name was announced as the DAISY Awardee for year 2023 in XU. “This recognition extends beyond just myself but to all student nurses who show competence and compassion within our community. May the DAISY Award serve as an inspiration for each of us to continue practicing “Magis” (more or greater), serving the heart of Magis for the betterment of everyone in our community”. I dedicate this to my parents, Xavier University College of Nursing and to Almighty God", said Dianarah.

The Co-Founder and Chairman of Health Carousel Philippines, Ms. Consorcia Dela Cruz, informed Dianara that other than the prestigious DAISY Awards and benefits from DAISY Foundation, Health Carousel will be providing a scholarship for her senior year not only covering her school fees but also her review for National Licensure Exam (NLE). “I hope the DAISY Award will inspire and motivate Dianarah to always deliver compassionate care which is the very essence of nursing and that it will also inspire the whole nursing community of Xavier University”, said Dela Cruz.

The Dean of the College of Nursing of the University, Dr. Mary Grace Paayas, was grateful and proud that the first recipient of DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing student in Mindanao is from her school.“ In recognition of Ms. Lofranco’s exceptional dedication and proficiency in providing patient care, she emerged as a deserving recipient of this prestigious DAISY AWARD. She concretized the capacity of an Atenean student nurse to provide compassionate care subsumed in her ongoing transformation to become competent, conscientious, committed, critical thinker and caring nurse generalist. She, too, has experienced intimidation, recognized her imperfections, and committed mistakes - all these set her off to do better and more. This achievement not only highlights her prowess but also showcase her potential to make a significant impact in healthcare,” said Paayas.

The awarding ceremony was attended by more than a thousand nursing students with the Faculty members and officials of the College of Nursing on August 5, 2023.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student is an ongoing project of Health Carousel to recognize nursing students. Our goal is to encourage more schools to participate in the coming years. Based on the standards established by the DAISY Committee, the story of Rhadrian Raphael Resuello, an incoming senior nursing student, gets the award. "I would like to thank the Daisy Foundation and Health Carousel. I was inspired by the story of the first recipient at our university last year. I hope my story will also inspire all the students here. Always take all the learning, be it in the ward or community, and I hope you bring it to serve the Filipino people as well as our fellow students,” Rhadrian said.

WEST VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY (WVSU) NURSING STUDENT, RECEIVES THE 1ST DAISY AWARD IN WESTERN VISAYAS

The DAISY Awardee was honored during the Recognition Day of the College of Nursing of West Visayas State University at Iloilo City. The awardee, Iverson J. Ferrer, was surprised and speechless when his name was called. He is an incoming senior nursing student from the premier university of Western Visayas. Iverson said, “For those student nurses who also aspire to receive a DAISY Award, my advice is to never lose the fire inside you. Never stop learning and achieving greater heights because, through this, we can be the nurses that we always dream to be.
